Listen to Your Transmission

Your transmission is designed to last approximately 100,000 miles. Pushing it farther than that is not recommended. You could do some serious damage to your transmission if you make such an attempt. Mechanics generally recommend this as a rule of thumb number of miles to shoot for with this part.

Look out for important warning signs of potential transmission issues. A transmission warning light is one example of something you need to pay attention to. It is a quick and easy to understand indicator of a potential problem. On top of that, you will want to look out for transmission fluid leaks and even the inability of your vehicle to move from gear to gear with ease. If it gets caught up, the odds are pretty good that your transmission may be about to go. You need to get it in to the mechanic right away so that he or she may take care of the problem.
